Fossavatnsgangan Standard Package 2023 (8 days, 7 nights)

Itinerary:

10th April - Arrival in Iceland (Keflavik International Airport). Stay one night in Reykjavik.
11th April - Day One of sightseeing tour. Visit Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, take a short hike up the Grabrok crater, and traverse the Dalir valleys region. Stay overnight in a country hotel overlooking the islands of Breidafjordur bay, the perfect backdrop for an evening northern lights walk, or even off-track skiing practice (depending on aurora activity, weather, and snow).
12th April - Day Two of sightseeing tour. Follow the stunning coastline of northern Breidafjordur bay. Drive over the Dynjandisheidi pass, then hike up to and admire the spectacular Dynjandi waterfall, still in its winter cloak. Reach Isafjordur in the early evening. Stay four nights at Hotel Horn in Isafjordur.
13th to 15th April: Prepare for, and participate in, the Fossavatnsgangan races.
16th April - One-day sightseeing tour between Isafjordur and Reykjavik. This time, take a different (and more direct) route than the earlier two-day tour. We visit two more places on the Westfjords Way: the cozy Litlibaer farmhouse for delicious Icelandic waffles, and then the uniquely delightful Reykjanes geothermal pool for a relaxing swim. Afterwards, continue straight to Reykjavik and stay one night.
17th April - Departure from Iceland (Keflavik international airport).

Description
:

This tour offers an unbeatable combination of rugged nature and comfortable hotel accommodation along the way, including in downtown Isafjordur during the days of the event.

The Fossavatnsgangan skiing races take place in the extraordinary town of Isafjordur. With a population of under 3000 people, it is nevertheless the largest settlement in the wild and remote Westfjords region, and in fact the largest town in the entire Northwest of Iceland. The nearest bigger town is nearly five hours’ drive away, which means Isafjordur is a regional centre that boasts all the facilities and services you’d expect of a much bigger town—but maintaining a charming village character.

The driving distance from Keflavík International Airport is 500 kilometres. The journey to and from Isafjordur will always therefore be an important part of your overall Fossavatnsgangan experience. Luckily, making the most of this gorgeous road trip is precisely where we come in!

Our 2023 package has been organised as an exciting eight-day/seven-night Iceland tour which combines four nights in Isafjordur with some of the most stunning places and exhilarating experiences along The Westfjords Way. Basically, it's how we would travel to the event ourselves (if we knew what to see, but had never seen it before)!

Customised Packages:

Please note that it is also possible to book a customised version of the standard package - including self-drive, domestic flights, a different itinerary, extensions, even a road trip all around Iceland. Just ask us!

Spare accommodation in Isafjordur is extremely limited during the popular Fossavatnsgangan weekend, so we strongly recommend booking your package as early as possible, to avoid disappointment.
